About Joel P. Franciosa
Joel Franciosa has been a full-time neutral since 2004 and has mediated thousands of cases. He has been asked to mediate relatively straightforward personal injury cases as well as complex matters involving employment, construction, medical malpractice, business disputes, contract disputes, real estate development, probate, and neighbor disputes.
As a litigator for thirteen years, he participated in trials and scores of mediations and arbitrations throughout Northern California involving first and third party claims.
He has had hundreds of hours of formal intensive mediation training, including a basic and an advanced training course with Steve Rosenberg's Mediation Training Program, business mediation training through University of California at Berkeley. He was also accepted to participate in both basic and an advanced mediation training program through the United States District Court, Northern California District. He participates in a mediation program each month through the Northern California United States District Court.
Mr. Franciosa has been accepted by various courts throughout Northern California as a mediator, including Alameda, Amador, Butte, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Merced Sacramento, San Francisco Sonoma, Solano, Yolo, and Yuba Counties, He has been accepted by both the United States District Court in San Francisco as well the Eastern California United States District Court in Sacramento. Because of his track record of helping parties reach mutually acceptable resolutions of difficult matters, he is regularly invited by various Bay Area courts to mediate both pre-trial and morning of trial matters. He is also on the panel of mediators for Judicate West in Northern California.
He was the chair of the ADR section of the Alameda Bar Association in 2008 and has been a member of the executive committee for the five years.
Mr. Franciosa's mediation approach is to treat parties and attorneys with respect. He views mediation as an opportunity for parties to tell their stories and to be heard. He assists parties to explore their options so they can make an informed decision about resolving their case. He works efficiently and diligently and keeps a positive attitude.
